Yuste Monastery was founded in 1402 by the Hieronymite Order. |
Charles V retired here in 1556 after dividing his empire. His son Philip II became King of Spain, and his brother Ferdinand I became Holy Roman Emperor. |
The monastery was enlarged to house his ~50 person attendants. |
Charles V was originally buried here, then later moved to the Royal Monastery at El Escorial. |
Yuste Monastery is definitely a peaceful place. |
