Blagaj

Blagaj is famous for the Sufi dervish lodge built at the mouth of the Buna river spring. The town is a 30 minute drive from Mostar.

The lodge was originally built in the 16th century, and has been improved throughout the following centuries.

The restaurants before the lodge require some bravery to patronize.

Blagaj has been ruled by Illyrians, Romans, Byzantines, Serbians, Bosnians, Ottomans, and Austrians.

The spring is still going strong.

The lodge is an excellent spiritual retreat.

The Bektashi and Khalwatiyyah orders both resided in the lodge. Sufi orders were banned in Yugoslavia in 1952.
