Nara

Nara was the capital of Japan during the first part of the 700s. The closest temple complex to the train station is the Buddhist complex of Kofuku-ji.

Deer are holy animals in the city, and wander freely through its temples and parks.

Vendors sell packs of biscuits you can feed to the deer.

The deer have adopted various feeding strategies to obtain these biscuits. The most obvious behavior is to hang out next to the vendors.

Some deer wander paths for biscuits and aggressively bother people for them. Others stand by the side of the road patiently waiting for them.

From Kofuku-ji you can walk to Kasuga-taisha, a Shinto shrine complex.

Todai-ji temple is a short walk across the park from the other temple complexes.

The temple is one of the largest wooden structures in the world and houses the world's largest bronze Buddha statue. The original temple was a third larger than this replica.

I guess this is one way to get good luck.
