Himeji Castle

Himeji Castle was built in the 1600s and is one of Japan's few original surviving castles.

The Japanese rangers were cleaning the castle and moat the day we were visiting. Here they are rappelling down the side of the castle, sweeping debris and cobwebs off of it.

Soldiers could hide in these cubies and attack intruders.

Weapons racks line the walls

Old coffins were used in the stone fortifications.
