| Cinque Terre, a UNESCO site, consists of five towns along the Ligurian Coast near Genoa. La Spezia is a city nearby that serves as a good base camp to explore the area, even if it is a little run down. |

| Porto Venere, just outside of La Spezia, is not part of Cinque Terre, but is amazing in its own right. The various churches and forts were built between 1000-1400. |
