Milan

Welcome to Milan, one of the great cities of the world! The magnificent glass canopy and fashion ads greet you.

The Bosco Verticale, the skyscraper of the future.

La Chiesetta is a great bar near where we stayed in Chinatown. You can guess the theme.

Milan has some great doggos.

Arco della Pace, built on the orders of Napoleon.

The Alpini, Italy's toughest singing warriors, were holding a fundraiser in Sempione Park.

Turtles!

The Visconti family ruled Milan during the 13th-15th centuries. Their coat of arms is quite intimidating, and on the Alfa Romeo logo.

Castello Sforzesco was the highlight of our visit. It wasn't too crowded and housed an array of museums.

When the castle was rebuilt, an effort was made to eliminate all traces of French or Austrian influence from occupation.
Francesco Sforza was a condottiero who married into/conquered Milan from the Visconti family.

St. George's Cross is the symbol of Milan. If you switch the colors, it becomes the Cross of the House Savoy, other conquerors of Milan.

Bernabo Visconti, one of Milan's great warlords. He had at least 30 children.

Rawr.

Relief from 1100s.

I thought the dragon was bigger.

Medieval "Nice Guy"

Automaton from the 16th century.

Modern is better!

Belongs with the classics.

Milan used to be a large Roman city known as Mediolanum. It became the capital briefly in the late 200s under Emperor Maximian. This is what is left of his palace.

A plate of neo-pagan Gods of the late Western Roman Empire.

Many artifacts were gathered from an ancient canal dug next to the palace that was later filled in.

Part of the ancient walls in the Archeology Museum.

Many Romans included their profession on their graves. This guy was a shoemaker.

An inscription of Pontius Pilate.

Romans wrote "curse tablets" wishing revenge on their enemies.

The Church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore next to the Archeology Museum is definitely worth a look.

The Duomo. Too many tourists. Watch out for the African friendship bracelet scam.

Old bank.

Venice!

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Leonardo

Pretty neat school.

Basilica San Lorenzo Maggiore

Roman columns of San Lorenzo
Canals of Milan

The canals are a popular Sunday attraction. Some people call this junk; me, I call them treasures.

The Monumental Cemetery is next to Chinatown.

The Milanese liked to show of their wealth, even in death.

Harry Potter exhibit!

Pescaria has the best seafood burgers in town.
