Ypres

Ypres is a Flemish city famous for being devastated during WWI. It is largely rebuilt now, with a famous WWI museum, the In Flanders Fields Museum, housed in its Cloth Hall.

Ypres was the first place chemical weapons were used in WWI. Over the course of four years of fighting, over one million people probably died there.

Ypres is also famous for Kattenstoet, in which cats were thrown from the belfry tower of the Cloth Hall into the town square below.

There are many small memorials around Ypres.

St. Martin's Cathedral was originally finished in 1370, and had to be rebuilt after WWI.

Some meme-able clowns.

Ypres was the third city of Flanders, after Bruges and Ghent.

The Menin Gate lists all known British killed at Ypres.

At 2000 every day buglers sound Last Post from the memorial.
